為了開始 Sound Transit 在西雅圖市中心輕鐵的工程, 九月二十四日起公車路線將會大變動. Bus Tunnel (公車隧道) 將關閉, 所有目前在公車隧道內行駛的公車將轉到地面. Metro Transit 和 Sound Transit 在西雅圖市中心的公車站點將有大更動. 位於 Westlake Center 的 Metro Transit 旅客服務中心也將移至 Rainier Square (1333 5th Ave Seattle, WA 98101). 公車族應該要注意一下你的搭公車地點是否有更動.

Metro Transit 這只是一個五個月的測試計畫, 而且只有兩條公車路線, Metro #48 和 Metro #197. Community Transit 則只提供 #422 可以上網. Sound Transit 則是計畫在今年秋季讓 Sound Transit #545 可以上網. 只是這些網路是利用沿線的無線手機的通路, 因此不建議做大檔案的傳輸. Sounder 應該是早就要有 Wifi, 可是到現在一點動靜也沒有? Side Note: Car-seat standards for kids tightened # Children up to 13 years old must ride in the back seat where it is practical to do so. # Children up to 8 years old, unless they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall, must ride in a booster seat or other approved restraint system. # The restraint system must be used according to the car seat and automaker’s instructions. # Vehicles equipped with lap-only seat belts are exempt from the requirement. # In Washington, all vehicle passengers are required to wear seat belts. 整個週末都沒有出門
第一次在連續的三天假期裡, 連門都沒有出過. 原本還想爬山或是至少買些生鮮蔬果的必需品, 看到超過一加侖三美元的油價就不想出門了. 還是蹲在家裡就好了…

Community Transit Invero Bus
Community Transit 在今年三月的時候引進了全美第一個公共運輸系統使用 New Flyer 的 Invero 公車. 不過這 Invero 公車在加拿大已經是使用多年. 不過由於噪音的因素, Community Transit 的 Invero 公車一直到七月底才開始完全的進入服務. 儘管更省油, 低保養, 外型新穎, 線條流線, 一付另人討喜的樣子. 但是卻是最不受歡迎的公車. * 公車產生的噪音. 低速的時候公車的引擎聲確實是比舊的公車好很多, 也滿安靜的. 但是當在高速公路行駛時, 速度越快產生的噪音越嚴重. 舊公車的噪音至少只是低沈的引擎. 這些 Invero 公車還伴有高分貝的尖峰噪音聲. 一點也不能幫助我睡覺. * 舒適度縮水. 公車內的椅距嚴重的縮水. 當坐下時, 膝蓋就差不多碰到前座了. 椅背能放下的角度縮小, 很多椅子根本不能放下. 也沒有像一些加長型公車有“大骨頭”的乘客設計. 我覺得這些公車適合當地方公車, 而不是跑長程的通勤公車. ===================== 今天公車上有一個很不滿的男子. 一上公車就對那些拿咖啡杯喝咖啡的人們開罵. 我實在很難寫出他在罵什麼, 因為從頭到尾有一半的字是 f*. 基本上就是說公車上是 “No Food, No Drink” 也不可以吸煙. 可是那些人為什麼偏偏可以喝咖啡. 還好罵歸罵, 他倒是沒有做什麼其他的傷害動作…除了很不滿的丟掉他揉的報紙. 因此大家就爭隻眼閉隻眼的讓他去罵. 他要下車前還往後門上的那個 “break the glass and pull the handle to open the door” 用力的敲了幾下, 不過沒有敲破. 他的 anger management 比去年火車的那傢伙溫柔多了…
[新聞] No Child Left Behind Act
今年有更多的學校沒有達到總統先生在 2002 年簽署的 No Child Left Behind Act. 絕大多數是位於 Cascade Mountains 東邊的學校, 不過還是有些在大西雅圖地區的學校沒有達到標準. 州政府教育局發佈的學校成績: “Improvement” status of schools and districts announced. 數字越大的 Step, 表示學校有更多需要改進的地方. 18 Seattle schools fail to meet performance goals: Landing on the federal list could lead to sanctions More schools missing targets A new way of judging how well schools are doing Side Notes: Retirement savings come before college fund Easy credit mortgages may hurt in downturn
[旅遊] Evergreen State Fair 和 Puyallup Fair
一年一度的 Evergreen State Fair 從今天開始, 一直到九月五日. Evergreen State Fair 是位於 Monroe 的 Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 西雅圖的東北方約三十英浬. 從西雅圖, 可以搭乘 Sound Transit #510 或 #513 到 Everett Station. 轉乘 Community Transit #270, #271, 或 #275 到達. 週末的時候可以向公車駕駛要 $2 的入園折扣卷. 另外華盛頓州最大, 世界上前十大的 Puyallup Fair 也將於九月九日開始到九月二十五日. Puyallup Fair 位於 Puyallup, 西雅圖的南方約三十五英哩. 從西雅圖, 可以搭乘 Sound Transit 的 #590, #591, 或 #594, 至 Tacoma Dome Station. 再轉乘 Pierce Transit 提供的 Fair 專車.
